The microscope stage is designed to accommodate standard holders for glass slides, Petri dishes, or multiwell plates.
What if your sample is unusual, or your experiment requires a specific setup?
How to secure your sample to the stage?
Biological samples are highly diverse and require different approaches. For standard tissue cultures or histological sections, the common sample holder is a glass slide. With live cell imaging, Petri dishes or chamber slides are typically used together with standard stage inserts.
But what if the requirements go beyond the standard?
- For whole organs, tissues, or wholemount preparations, clearing is often necessary. Using a specialized clearing chamber allows researchers to observe and monitor the clearing process directly, and even acquire final images without handling the fragile specimen.
- For in vitro assays, such as microtubule growth, fast cell loading, or holding a cover glass sandwich, a dedicated cover glass holder provides a practical and reliable solution.
These specialized chambers and holders expand the possibilities of the microscope stage, ensuring optimal conditions even for non-standard and delicate samples.

A cover glass sandwich is typically assembled using two cover glasses of different sizes, e.g. 22 × 22 mm and 18 × 18 mm, combined with a spacer or thin Parafilm layers in between.

For instant sample preparation, mounting spacers offer clear advantages. They not only secure the fragile biological specimen inside but also precisely define the perpendicular orientation of the sample relative to the objective lens. This ensures optimal imaging conditions and reproducibility.

ADVI holders and chambers
We offer two lines of equipment for handling non-standard or fragile specimens: ADVI Chambers and ADVI Holders.
ADVI Chambers are robust carriers made of high-quality stainless steel, designed for tissue clearing and imaging of whole organs without the need for additional handling.
ADVI Holders provide a stable and precise way to mount cover glass sandwiches or other, mostly in-vitro preparations, keeping the specimen perfectly aligned to the objective. Suitable for TIRF.
Both product families combine durability with user-friendly design and expand the capabilities of your microscope setup.
